New-Crime
Fiction roots should not be confused with modern and Chinese crime
fiction which is rooted from translations of foreign works from the
1890’s starting with Sherlock Homes introduced into classical and
vernacular Chinese, where as New-Crime fiction focus on new or
established thoughts, ideals, themes, and plots not indicative or
ubiquitous to Crime fiction or sub-genre and may cross genres.
History & Development
New-Crime
Fiction (NCF) was first developed in the 1990’s and coined in 2018.
Inspired by The Godfather Part III and “We’re No Angels” Crime, Comedy
(1989 film)
It's origins comes out of crime novels such as The Godfather, Scarface and films like A Bronx Tale, Good-fellas, New Jack City, Juice and the more recent water shed mark film, The Family.
The
need to differentiate from Crime Fiction and it's sub-genres came about
partly due to quite a number of websites dedicated to the genre would
include Thrillers, Mystery, Spy and Detective, into their catagory list,
with very little Gangster stories... hardly any to none taken
precedence, this includes subgenres from other . . . such as American
Crime Fiction and Crime Novel, thus making it difficult to find the
perfect read.
Complicating matters, search engines also yield poor results, and abandon in favor of other search terms.
Lost in the genre and search results, marginalized fans of this material.
As a collective whole these kind of sites, practices dirty genre-ism or better known as dirty popism.
New-Crime Fiction is for the gangster reader at
heart, and readers who are interested in crimes against humanity
literature, who wants in-depth three dimensional characters, creative
storylines and plots tackled in a unique way and also diving into
uncharted subject matters not explored, and rejects some of the
traditional notions.
Max Stravagar
considered “the Grand Master” of twentieth first – century Millennial
New-Crime Fiction, with Garcia Gangsta series, as its crown piece, and
the celebrated Cell Block God's, Wiseguys Shadow and Mirror Mafia on the
wall series as some of its corner stone.
Tod
Goldberg is another author who exemplifies with excellence New-Crime
Fiction' Gangsterland and Gangster Nation, has given this genre some
exposure level needed. The book received glowing reviews in Kirkus,
Publishers Weekly, Booklist, Mystery Scene Magazine, the Orange County
Register, and numerous other outlets.
